I received a book called The Creative Act as a gift. I don’t often read self-help books, but this one made a strong impression because I related to it and found a lot to learn from it. I think every artist should read it at least once. The author, Rick Rubin, is an incredibly successful producer who places great importance on the essence of things. The line that struck me most was “Intention is everything.” I related so strongly to the idea that a work merely reminds us of its intention that it felt cathartic. Because the work itself mattered so much to me, I focused a lot on the quality and details of the finished result, but I realized that its essence actually lies in the intention. The work only reminds us of that intention. This is a good book for people whose jobs require creativity and those who want to do creative work.
