“The book gave me time to think about the wounds of the victims and their families, the perpetrators and their families, and the people around them.”

I also read Japanese author Kanae Minato’s novel Confessions out of a desire to give a good performance. Oh Jong-hyuk recalled, “When I was doing the musical Thrill Me, I read it because I wanted to act with greater depth and strength,” adding, “With my first production, On Air Season 2, I went onstage after auditioning unexpectedly, but by the next production, Thrill Me, I wanted to do better.” Confessions is a novel in which a teacher named Yuko, who has lost her young daughter, confesses a shocking incident to her students and carries out revenge for a murder committed by thirteen-year-old middle school students. Thrill Me was also based on a shocking murder that took place in Chicago in 1924, and the book helped him understand the character. “In this production, I played the perpetrator who kidnapped and murdered a boy named Bobby, who was 12 years old 34 years ago. The book gave me time to think about the wounds of the victims and their families, the perpetrators and their families, and the people around them.”
